How Pallets Improve Warehouse Efficiency

If your business is booming and demand for your products is increasing, you need to make sure your warehouse can keep up with these changes. Warehouse efficiency is a must for success, and if you are lacking in this regard, your company will struggle as a result. If you are looking to boost the productivity levels of your warehouse and want to remain successful in a competitive market, you need to look into new solutions, and the good news is that you don’t always have to invest in expensive technical strategies because there other ways of getting your warehouse on the right track, including the proper use of pallets.

Pallets are a mandatory component of the shipping industry, and most companies rely on them to ship and receive products. Certain pallet storage methods will allow your warehouse to function more efficiently, so make sure you consider the following:

Block Stacking

This is when unit loads are stacked on top of each other and stored on the warehouse floor either in blocks or lanes. Your pallets must be stacked to a specific height, and this aspect must be based on different aspects like the condition of the pallets, the weight of the load, height clearance and the capability of your forklifts. The retrieval process is simple, and the last pallet that was stacked on the block will be the first one to come out.

Single-deep Pallet Rack

This would provide you with access to each pallet stored in the rack. Whenever a pallet is removed, you would be able to fill that space immediately with a new pallet, and this type of racking can be configured in a variety of ways with different heights. You would never have to deal with honeycombing issues that occur with stacking frames and block stacking, and the only disadvantage is that the racks would need a lot of floor space for such aisles.

Drive-in Rack

This option provides access for your forklifts to place and remove stock. It is an effective option, although the forklifts will have limited space to maneuver, so that’s something you have to keep in mind.

Pallet Flow Rack

This involves the use of a conveyor, and the rack operates whereby the load is moved from one end of the rack on the conveyor, after which the next pallet will move into the position of the pallet that was removed. This is a more expensive option but one that is very efficient.

In addition to pallets, creating proper workstations and maximizing your vertical space are also great ways of improving warehouse efficiency, and if you have the right methods of communication in place, your business is bound to succeed.
