Five Interesting Things About Pallets

Most of the time, the word “pallet” is unassuming. You can be thinking about exactly how pallets are really all that interesting. But they are! Pallets are actually a renewable natural resource and are beneficial for the environment. Often not thought of, wooden pallets are the choice for countless companies when it comes to shipping and receiving goods. Here are five interesting facts about wooden pallets:

  1. Wooden Pallets are environmentally friendly

If you are environmentally conscious, wood pallets are a good choice! Plastic pallets are made using oil and gas, which are precious resources that can run out. On the other hand, wood is a completely renewable resource that can be recycled and reused several times.

The majority of wooden pallets today are recycled repeatedly until they have run their course. This is different from other pallets made of different materials, which are more likely to end up in a landfill, creating unnecessary waste.

  1. Wooden Pallets are very versatile

Once wooden pallets have reached the end of their lifespan, they can be broken down and shredded to be used for a range of purposes. These pallets can be cut up in garden mulch and animal bedding, or can even be used for firewood. The versatility offered by old and used wooden pallets is valuable and just makes their use that much more beneficial.

  1. Wooden Pallets can be chipped into fuel

Wood chips are a cheap and reliable way of producing heat energy because they are a sustainable and renewable choice for heating and power. Just like being recycled, wooden pallets being used for fuel is another way that they can be used past their expiration date, increasing their versatility. A used-up wooden pallet that has seen years of use can be used again when recycled or used for fuel.

  1. Wooden Pallets are NOT supplied through deforestation

It is often assumed that trees are cut down specifically to make wooden pallets. That assumption is wrong. Wooden pallets are actually the by-product of timber used in the construction of homes and the building of furniture. Any leftover of these processes is used to build wooden pallets. This means that anyone can use wooden pallets with the clear consciousness that they are not contributing to any deforestation.

  1. Wooden Pallets can be seen everywhere

You cannot literally see wooden pallets everywhere, but chances are the majority of the things you see have been transported on a wooden pallet at some point in time or another. It’s actually fascinating to think that wooden pallets actually play a pretty major but underappreciated role in our society and our everyday lives.
